Mom and 5 babies (Bensalem, PA)
We've lived in this house since 1992 and have always had a ground hog share our property. Last spring mom groundhog had five babies. In the fall, mom found homes for all the babies. We thought that was the end of them until next spring, but to our surprise one baby returned and has yet to hibernate. Just when we think he's gone for the rest of the winter, we'll catch him out and about eating grass. Does anyone else have a groundhog that has not hibernated yet?

Black Groundhogs (Delaware)
These two black groundhogs were rescued in Delaware after their mother was killed by a dog. Black groundhogs, called "melano" are rare. These two melano groundhogs were rescued, cared for, and released back into the wild by Hilary Taylor of the Delaware Wildlife Rehabilitator's Association (Bear, DE).
White Groundhog (Virginia)
This white groundhog has lived near College Lake in Lynchburg VA for at least five years, according to Bob Martin, who took this photo. White groundhogs are called "albino" but typically have pink eyes, however, this one's eyes are dark brown. Bob believes that this hog owes his long life to an underground abandoned drainage pipe that caused it not to have to cross the road on top of it.
